| Problem : No AC output on start-up.
Symptoms : Generator starts. Voltmeter indicates +200 VAC. Oil pressure warning light illuminates. Relay on the Oil Pressure warning light board clicks. VAC output drops to zero. Timescale of +/- 1 second.
History : Possible back-feed from mains AC to generator. Replaced the regulator box. Tested and disconnected oil pressure switch. Could it be possible short on the windings producing over-charge? |

Need to check the windings.
Start by removing the exhaust system
Check the resistance across the brushes. It should be 30 - 40 ohms. This must be in spec.
Then if you are competent to do so
Connect 12V+ to the LEFT HAND BRUSH TERMINAL
Connect 12- to the RIGHT HAND BRUSH TERMINAL
power the machine up and it May show 140 - 160V on the voltmeter. Check across the 2 yellow wires going into the alternator they should be about 65 - 80 V ac
Check the 2 blue wires they should be 10 - 18V ac
Any failure in any of these tests indicates a blown alternator. If all ok it SHOULD be the AVR
Good Luck |
